More information regarding our Recreational Program
Our program's goal is for kids to play soccer so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game. It's no fun to spend the game on the bench...and that's no way to learn soccer!
Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because it's more fun and a better learning experience when teams of similar ability play. It allows for each player to gain the experience of a wide variety of teammates of different skill levels.
Our program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut.
Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. A coach can be one of the most influential people in a child's life, so AYSO requires they create a positive experience for every boy and girl.
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.
We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
Our recreational soccer program is for girls and boys ages three to eighteen. Players who sign up for both the fall and spring season All registered players are randomly assigned to a team based on age and previous assessed soccer skills and experience to assure balanced teams. Season team assignments will remain the same for both the Fall (Sept-Nov) and following Spring (Apr-Jun) season sessions. Recreational Teams play one game per week (weekend) with one recommended practice time as scheduled by the coach.
Recreational Team Coaches are parent volunteers. See Coaches Corner Tab listed under "About MWUSC" for more information and useful links to help with coaching our players!
Club field size supports the practice of starting younger players in small-sided games to maximize the number of ball touches for players. Younger ages (‘U’nder 6 or U6) play small-sided matches of 3v3 (4v4) and U8 play 5v5/6v6 and U10-U12 playing 8v8. Once players reach the U14 and U19 levels, they play full-sided 11v11 matches on full size fields if registration numbers support that, if not -small sided games are used. This promotes the development of younger players' soccer technique (individual and team skills) before teaching tactics. Teams practice once per week with weekly games being played Saturday or Sunday on scheduled and maintained MWUSC fields within the Monroe Woodbury area.
Team Division Assignments are determined primarily by grade.
